Gun enthusiast attempts to repeal open-carry ban

Abstract:
While never being a victim of gun violence, Brian Martin of Jonesboro said he hears about it getting closer to his home every day.

"If I can't live, what can I do?" Martin asked rhetorically.

What Martin is doing is attempting to change state law to make it legal for him and others to openly carry guns....

It sure is kinda weird when folks can open carry handguns without any license in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Raleigh, Milwaukee, and Seattle - but not Arkansas. Sign the petition to restore the right to open carry in Arkansas today at http://www.petitiononline.com/ARPFOCOH/petition.html.

See more at http://www.OpenCarry.org and map at http://www.opencarry.org/opencarry.html.

If the right to bear arms means anything, it means that a citizen should be able to have a holstered firearm available to protect himself or herself. Whether that is openly carried or concealed should be a matter of personal choice. Does it really make sense to require someone to wear a jacket in 95 degree summer weather. There are holsters available that effectively prevent anyone but the wearer from removing the firearm. The "easy to take away" argument is pretty weak.

A majority of the States of the Union allow open carry of firearms. It seems odd that "the government" would say, "sure, hide it, thats OK, but don't carry it openly".

The "Old West" argument is heard from the left everytime gun possession is talked about. Gun ownership..."It'll be like the old west!!!"/ Concealed Weapons Licences...."It'll be like the old west". Open Carrying of firearms..."It'll be like the old west.

Newsflash: The old west was safer than today!! With fewer incidents of random murders, random assaults, rapes, and burglaries. Most murders were more like 'duels' between willing participants.

When gun ownership is allowed by citizens, crime goes down. When concealed weapon permits are issued, crime goes down. And guess what, if they allow open carry of firearms, crime will probably go down too.

We have rights in this Country to decide for ourselves, let's start using these rights!

Only 6 states in the Union have laws that forbid open carry. The rest have either open carry or concealed carry or some combination. How many of those state have reverted to 'the old west'? Also, if you check the statistics of the cities in the 'old west' you will find lower crime rates than we have now.
