Comedian Mitch Fatel will be performing at the UA 7 p.m. today in the Alltel Ballroom, located in the Arkansas Union. It is a free event for all UA students, faculty and staff.

"[The event] is a great place to meet [University Programs] people and interact with other students," said James 'Tatum' Wilson, UP comedy committee chairman.?

In 2005, Fatel placed in the final top eight of the Sirius Satellite Radio World series of Comedy. In addition, Fatel was voted sixth in the Comedy Central Stand-Up Showdown competition last year. In 2006, Fatel took home honors as "Best Comedian" at the HBO Aspen Comedy Festival, which was held annually in Aspen, Colo. On April 6, his new half-hour, stand-up special debuted on Comedy Central, according to Fatel's Media Web page. Fatel started doing stand-up comedy when he was 13-years-old, according to an interview on collegehumor.com. He would go on stage with his pajamas with milk and cookies, saying that he would have to get up early for school, according to the interview.

"It was really terrible stuff," Fatel said.

What drives him to perform is his love for comedy, he said.

"I always say there has to be a sick reason why you go through this rejection constantly…if you ever ask whether or not you should be a comedian, don't do it," Fatel said, according to the Web site. "You shouldn't have to ask, you should need to do it. If you don't need to do it, save yourself a lot of pain and get a family and a real life."

"[Fatel] has two CDs out [called] Super Retardo and Mini Skirts and Muffins," Wilson said.

"Fatel has developed an endearing stage persona that makes his very funny and very raunchy material quite acceptable. Super Retardo is…hilarious stand-up comedy and definitely a disc you keep around to listen to from time to time," according to seriouscomedy.com.

"Fatel comes across as your nerdy, raging-hormoned, nerdy little brother in his stage persona but definitely has a grown man's mind and sexual drive. There is something so utterly charming and endearing about this stand-up comic on stage that he can obviously hit on a female member of the audience, ask her the most intimate questions…and get an answer and cross what would, for any other stand-up comedian, be the line and get away with it," according to the Web site.

To keep fans updated, Fatel blogs about upcoming events in an online journal on his official Web site, mitchfatel.com. He thanks his fans for their loyalty, saying that they are "the most incredible fans in the world.

"I have so many different groups of people coming to the shows…and everyone usually waits patiently [in] line after my performances and are just so incredibly cool and complimentary. They really are the nicest people I've ever met," Fatel said. "I don't mean to put down wrestling or the Maury Povich show or 'Larry the Cable' guy, but I've seen the fans of these particular entities and I think my fans are smarter and cooler," he said.?

"[UA students] should see Fatel's show because it's the greatest comedy show of the semester thus far," said Wilson, guaranteeing students a lot of fun or refunding their money back.

More information on Fatel can be found on his official Web site mitchfatel.com,  facebook.com or myspace.com.
