The UA has appointed Bruce E. Pontious associate vice chancellor of development Monday. Pontious will begin his new role at the UA Sept. 15, according to a press release.

"Bruce Pontious is one of the most successful and accomplished fund-raising professionals in the nation," said Tysen Kendig, associate vice chancellor of University Relations. "He's put together a remarkable track record at one of the nation's largest and most complex universities (Ohio State University) over the past two decades."

Pontious served for over 20 years as a fund-raising executive at Ohio State University, according to the press release. He holds a bachelor's degree from Heidelberg College, where he worked in admissions, alumni and church relations from '72 to '78, according to the release.

"In short, he knows higher education development as well as anyone in the country and will bring new perspectives and ideas. We feel very fortunate to be bringing him to the {UA}," he said.

The associate vice chancellor for university development reports to Brad Choate, the UA's Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, and will directly oversee the UA's comprehensive fund-raising programs, including the offices of annual giving, corporation and foundation relations, development research, gift services, information services and planned giving, Kendig said.

The position was formerly held by Sandy Edwards, who vacated the position in 2007 to become the associate director of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, according to the press release.

"With Bruce's arrival coming on the heels of our new vice chancellor for university advancement [Choate], certainly there will be many new ideas and initiatives brought to an already world-class advancement operations moving forward," Kendig said. "Bruce is easily one of, if not the, most qualified individuals we could have hoped to find for this key position at the UA."
