Four: the number of press releases The Arkansas Traveler received regarding the opening of the re-located Razorback Cinema in Fayetteville throughout the past two months.

Why so many? Apparently, slow construction, rain and other problems have delayed crew members from completing the cinema as anxious locals await the grand opening.

According to the newest press release received by the Traveler on Thursday, Oct. 4, the theater is now scheduled to open today. A ribbon cutting is supposed to take place at 5:30 p.m. followed by the grand opening to the public at 6:30 p.m.

But, driving by the site, it seems as though there is a lot of work left to be done.

At the corner of Joyce and Steele Boulevards, the large, art-deco style building sits covered by a thick layer of construction dust and littered by building equipment. And…no movie posters.

This was Saturday. Six days before the "opening" that Malco has been planning and publicizing to local papers and potential patrons for tonight.

Still, the Malco's public relations staff seems confident; the Traveler received an invitation to the ribbon cutting ceremony.

"If they want to make sure everything is in order so they can guarantee a great [theater] then I don't mind waiting," said UA senior Jose Lopez.

"I'm excited about the new theater, but I am frustrated that there continue to be delays," said senior Kate Mitchell.

"I go to Fiesta now, but it's really sketchy. That is why I can't wait for the new cinema. It won't be creepy," she said. "And I am excited about not having to go to Aunt Annie's anymore for my gourmet pretzels; the new Malco is supposed to have them now."

Along with the timeless movie mate, popcorn, Malco is promising moviegoers an "expanded concession menu, which includes gourmet pretzels, pizza and specialty ice cream," according to the most recent press release.

All this and more by tonight?

Will they make it happen? Well, wait and see.

The staff at the Traveler is wishing for the best - if not for the promise of comfy seats and stadium seating, then to avoid receiving another optimistic press release from Malco, only to be disappointed a fifth time.
