Lady'Backs enter weekend on a hot note

Arkansas ends a four-game home stand this Friday as it hit the road once again, facing No. 25 LSU Friday before squaring off against Ole Miss Sunday.

The Lady'Backs (10-10, 4-6) are full of confidence heading into the matches following their performance this past weekend at Barnhill Arena. They knocked off No. 5 Florida for the first time in 10 years last Friday night and easily dispatched South Carolina on Sunday to get back to .500 overall.

Winning four of its last five matches, Arkansas is finally starting to piece together a solid team effort week in and week out despite battling inexperience and injuries.

"We've had a great couple weeks," Arkansas head coach Chris Poole said. "But just because we did last week, doesn't mean we're a new, older more experienced team all of a sudden.  We still have some of our same issues, but the confidence we've gained has helped us."

Arkansas is now looking to continue that recent trend of victories, and is beginning to gain momentum as the season progresses.

"Our goal right now is win seven or eight more matches to close out the season," Poole said. "We are going to continue to play hard and see what happens down the stretch."

Meanwhile, Arkansas is focusing its concentration on No. 25 LSU. The Tigers defeated the Lady'Backs Sunday opponent, Ole Miss, on Wednesday night to take over the top spot in the Southeastern Conference's Western Division.

"The SEC is brutal this year," Poole said. "The parity has been incredible.  It's amazing how many five-game matches there has been this year.  We know that LSU has had to put a lot of attention into getting ready for Ole Miss Wednesday, but LSU is an experienced team who has had a lot of success lately. This is going to be a tough weekend."

LSU is led by sophomore Brittnee Cooper, who had an outstanding night against Ole Miss Wednesday. She tied a career-high with 11 blocks against the Rebels and also added 12 kills. It was the second double-double of her short career.
