The UA will be celebrating its 85th annual Homecoming this week with 12 events, which include everything from a "Create-a-Hog" competition to the traditional Razorback pep rally.

The bad weather on Monday was difficult to miss - with temperatures in the 50s and rain drizzling all day, the conditions were not prime for the kick-off Homecoming event, "Frank's Franks." The event was planned to take place on the Union lawn, where a local radio would broadcast live, but the rain pushed the event into the Union Connections lounge.

Melissa DeLoach, the Student Alumni Board Advisor, said, "The bad weather deterred some of the crowd, but there was still a great turnout. We passed out hot dogs for two hours straight." DeLoach said more than 2,500 hot dogs were donated by Tyson.

Because the weather prevented the expected crowd from showing up for this event, there was an excess of hot dogs. The extra hot dogs that were not used by the student body will be donated to charity.

Today's Homecoming event is the "second annual Hog'n the Hill Create-a-Hog Competition." Student groups sign up to create a "structure" that represents UA and the Razorbacks in the most unique way, and then a winner is chosen.

According to the rules and regulations the Arkansas Alumni Board posted on their Web site, a structure for this event is considered an object that has maximum dimensions of 3-by-2-by-2 is not perishable, can support itself and does not require electricity. Fitting to the title of "Create-a-Hog," the structure must represent the UA mascot. The structure must also properly represent the Homecoming theme of "Razorback Rodeo." The student-created structures will be on free display in the Union Connections Lounge today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students and faculty will be the judges of this event, and the winning "Create-a-Hog" structure will be awarded points towards the Homecoming competition. All of the structures will decorate the Alumni House for the duration of the week.
