Resolution Seven, "The Students' Tuition Increase Right to Know Resolution", authored by Sen. Caleb Rose, a representative of the graduate school, and Sen. Jacob Holloway, a representative of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, calls for ASG to host a member of the UA administration to explain, in detail, the need for and application of any tuition increases. The resolution would further require the ASG Press Relations Committee to inform students of the reasons for increased tuition.
"The cost of college is actually going up at double that of the inflation rate," Holloway said, citing an article in the Washington Post.
"Student debt is also up an even greater margin than tuition. An 8 percent increase in student debt - that's amazing," Holloway said.
Senators expressed their concern that tuition increases are inevitable and can not be stopped by an act of ASG.
"As representatives of students, part of our job is to exercise a little bit of oversight, and part of that oversight, I definitely think, is tuition," Holloway said. "It's our right to know where the increases are going to. There's not much we can do except ask questions, but I do think that is a part of accountability and holding people responsible."
"All I would like to see is have someone come in here and explain to us the breakdown," Rose said.
The resolution was referred to the Press Relations Committee for further review.
Two resolutions introduced concerned the use of scooters on campus.
Resolution Five, titled "Policy Enforcement for Pedestrian Safety," sponsored by Sen. Chris Allen of Bumpers College, calls for ASG to assist the UA Transit and Parking Department, the UA Police Department, Facilities Management and Housing in educating students about the policy for scooter use on campus and to support the administration when rules are enforced.

I would like to amend this story to reflect some developing aspects regarding the Tuition legislation presented. Unfortunately, Sen. Holloway and myself let our hearts get in the way of our brains. (Continued…)
