Sanctions regarding damages caused by a paint war on Old Main lawn are being reviewed by the Office of Community Standards and Ethics, said Parice Bowser, Associate Director of Greek Life.
About 100 members of the Greek organizations Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Delta and Sigma Alpha Epsilon took part in the tradition Oct. 12.
The event left several sections of Senior Walk covered in latex paint, which was also found in the Greek Theater, said Mike Johnson, Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management.
Leaders of the organizations met with members of the Office of Community Standards and Ethics this week, Bowser said.
"They've admitted that they participated in the paint wars," Bowser said. "They never denied they were out there."
SAE hosted several paint wars in the past, many times with different organizations, said Chris Rittelmeyer, SAE president.
"It's always been done out on Old Main lawn," Rittelmeyer said. "We set cups of paint in the middle of the grass, and everybody runs and throws them at each other."
Participants were not supposed to go near the sidewalks and were instructed to stay in the grass, Rittelmeyer said.
"What happened was a couple of guys remembered that they had paint cans in their cars after they'd been doing the war, so they ran over and grabbed the cans," Rittelmeyer said. "Everybody else saw them, and they ended up meeting on top of that sidewalk."
Several SAE members tried to clean up the mess as soon as it happened, after buying wire brushes and paint remover.
"It wasn't horrible," said Zack Lewis, SAE Vice President. "It didn't cover a whole lot of space at that point, but I guess people were walking in it."
Realizing the extent of the mess, other members attempted to use a pressure washer later that night, but efforts were squashed when they found no water source available near the site.
"The sad part is, what spilled on the sidewalk was probably from four cans and fewer than 10 people," Lewis said. "It was only the people who made it that far."

Please, Traveler, explain why this is a top story once again? The fact that these Greek organizations are going to J-Board is big news?
I am disappointed in the Traveler's recent editorial decisions regarding this issue. (Continued…)

Short of damage to Senior Walk done by construction crews, this was the worst damage I've ever seen done to the tradition since I've been here over a period of four years. (Continued…)

Haa! As I said before, this really milked the Greeks. $6,000 is a bit more then the already inflated estimated cost. There's no way that was $6000 damages. (Continued…)
