After much anticipation and hard work, Arkansas has an official hockey team.
The Arkansas Razorback club hockey team has been practicing at the Jones Center for the last two of months in preparation for its first season as a part of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
The formation of the team is credited to two students whose dreams are to play the fast and exciting game of ice hockey.
Head coach Patrick Forseth is a volunteer coach who has spent his entire life around the game. Forseth said junior forward Michael Bugbee and senior forward Luke Parsons are the main puzzle pieces to the operation. Forseth has been sidelined from any kind of competition due to a severe head injury, but because of the determination of the students, it has given him an opportunity to continue being a part of the game of hockey.
The Ice Hogs, a Division-III school, will be traveling for their first season. A late start to joining the league has prevented the Hogs from having any home games during the first year.
Preparation for future seasons begin during the present season. Because of the missed opportunities for hosting any games this year, the team is working toward playing on home ice next year.
"We plan on playing five to 10 home games next year, and playing 30 games total," Forseth said.
The Hogs will travel to Alabama Jan. 12 to open the season. After playing two games there, the team will travel to Middle Tennessee and finish the road trip with two games against Vanderbilt.
"We've also got verbal commitments from Missouriā¦and verbal commitments from three Texas schools," Forseth said.
To keep up-to-date with all team developments, the Hogs have a Web site that is currently available, but still in the making. Visit RazorbacksHockey.com for a full roster, current schedule and photos.

Congratulations are in order for this team in their first weekend as a team with two games and a total of 4 goals. Alabama was surprised by the leadership and development of this first year team. (Continued…)
