Holloway unjustly asked to resign

Uncommon Sense

A heartbreaking injustice occurred last week when UA student Jacob Holloway was pressured to resign from his leadership positions in the Democratic Party because of his criticism of Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor and support of Green Party candidate Rebekah Kennedy for U.S. Senate. He was urged to resign from his position as Secretary of UA Young Democrats, and from his outstanding postion as Vice-President of the College Democrats of Arkansas.

The call for Holloway's resignation originated from an unnamed source, but he was told the Pryor campaign was "deeply troubled" over his criticism and Green endorsement. Whoever is responsible for issuing this unjust order owes him an apology.

Holloway is one of the most sincere servants of the public I have encountered, and he is a very involved student at UA, particularly in the Associated Student Government.

Holloway has spent countless hours helping the Democrats at all levels. In 2004, he volunteered for the John Kerry campaign, and interned for U.S. Rep. Marion Berry. Holloway was also a Campaign Volunteer Intern for the Victory 2006 Campaign, where he canvassed neighborhoods and made many phone calls to get out the vote, helping elect Democrats including Governor Mike Beebe. His selfless public service record also includes volunteering at the Northeast Arkansas Food Bank and Jonesboro Youth Ministries as an after school tutor.

Although he is sometimes viewed as too vocal and uncompromising, I see a passionate promoter of ideas in the interest of The People. Holloway is refreshingly unlike the typical self-interested politician whose primary motivation is selfish ambition for climbing the ladder of power at any cost, which usually means sacrificing that which makes us human and defines us as individuals.

But enough praise for my dear friend and fellow deep patriot. Let us discuss the sparking catalyst for what is quickly evolving into a scandalous political firestorm, which I dub Resignationgate.

Apparently, the Democratic Party in AR believes that once you publicly associate with (or support) them, you're not allowed to pay attention to what others are doing to actually EARN your vote. (Continued…)

I guess Marx Pryor D-fascist will not tolerate a sane voice speaking up in Arkansas.

After reading Abel Tomlinson's opinion article and his defense of Jacob Holloway. I researched on the Arkansas Traveler, Jacob's original letter to the editor dtd Feb 20, 2008 in which he states about Pryor: "he also voted for and helped pass the "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. This article will probably be retracted by the paper, or an official statement will be given...most of what he wrote is either false or a gross overexaggeration. (Continued…)

Typical Tomlinson. Wrong and misguiding on all points. He should not be allowed to write for the Traveler. It's a total waste of time to repudiate any of Tomlinson's wacko "facts". (Continued…)

If its a waste of time to "repudiate" EVERY wrong point that you think Abel made, then it must be a waste of time to think that anything he wrote was wrong, no?

it is not unreasonable for young democrats to criticize the officials we work so hard for, nor is it 'misguided' to hold them accountable when their actions do not mirror our political values. (Continued…)

Halloway was right to question Pryor. Party leaders should not be afraid of the democratic process. What does the democratic party really stand for if its elected officials stand for nothing?
