Premier orchestral ensemble at UA performs at WAC tomorrow

The Fulbright College department of music will feature the University Symphony Orchestra in concert at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Walton Arts Center.?
The orchestra is under the direction of Robert Mueller, according to a press release.? Mueller has been employed by the UA music department since 1988, according to the UA music department Web site.? He currently teaches composition and music theory, he said.
Mueller's original compositions have been played nationwide, and a number of music festivals have programmed his music, according to the music department Web site. He has received 17 consecutive American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers awards, he said. He has also received an American Music Center grant, an individual artist grant from the Arkansas Arts Council and prizes from the Omaha, Lansing, Jackson and Cincinnati symphonies, according to the Web site.
The orchestra will perform the Roman Carnival Overture by Hector Berlioz, the Symphony No. 8 of Antonin Dvorak and the Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto, featuring Theresa Delaplain as an oboe soloist, according to the press release. ?The orchestra is the main orchestral ensemble at the UA, Mueller said.? It is an all-student ensemble numbering between 40 to 90 players that regularly collaborate with other music department ensembles in performances of major choral and orchestral works, according to the music department Web site. ?The orchestra plays four concerts a year, two a semester, Mueller said.?
"[The orchestra] is a very talented group that works very hard," said Mueller, who is very excited and looking forward to the concert.
The admission for this event is $10 for the general public, $5 for senior citizens and $1 for students with IDs. Tickets will be available at the door prior to the event.
