The University Program Cinema Arts Committee is hosting a film competition for students. Students must have their films turned by 5 p.m. today to the Campus Life Center. The winning films will be shown from 7-8 p.m. April 3 in the Arkansas Union Theatre.
The films can be about whatever topic a student chooses as long as they are under 40 minutes and contain no inappropriate material, said Kelsey Lavigne, president of the committee.
Prizes will be awarded to the students whose films are chosen, which will likely be gift certificates from amazon.com, she said.
At the time of the interview, one student, Jay Flenor, had entered the competition, Lavigne said.
The UP cinema committee is one of the seven committees that make up University Programs responsible for events such as the "Rocky Horror Picture Show," the International Movie Night, Outdoor Movies and the Union Video Theater, Lavigne said. The committee is made up of a few students on campus and they are always looking for more members.
"The more people on the committee, the better [it] represents the student body," she said.
Students who are interested in participating should enter their films at the Campus Life Center in Room A665. Others can come to the theatre April 3 for the viewing of these student-created films.
