Issue date: 4/9/08 Section: News
A student referendum is attached to the ASG executive elections this week.
Voting began 9 a.m. Monday and will continue through 4 p.m. tomorrow.
In addition to deciding the next ASG president, vice president, secretary and treasurer, students will vote in favor of or against four resolutions that have been discussed previously by the student government.
To vote, students can go to www.vote.uark.edu.
Students will vote on Resolution 19, "The ASG Sustainability and Campus Environment Senate Committee Creation Act of 2008."
The resolution calls for creating a committee to address recycling, sustainability and other environmental issues on campus.
Having a standing Senate committee created to address only these issues would create an atmosphere that is conducive toward the creation of legislation that would help promote an environmentally friendly campus, according to the resolution.
The creation of the committee would promote a dialogue between students, administration and facilities management, according to the resolution.
The committee, along with the ASG executive branch, will sponsor and help promote the "Recycling with the Razorbacks" program and any other future programs concerning the issues of recycling efforts, sustainability efforts and the general campus environment, according to the resolution.
Another issue on the ballot is Resolution 23, "The Associated Student Government Judiciary Reform Act of 2008."
The ASGJ cannot function adequately in its present state, according to the resolution.
ASG created a committee in summer 2007, which was composed of UA administrators, ASG executives, ASG senators, and past and present ASGJ members to study the current situation of ASGJ, according to the resolution.
The committee's other responsibility was to propose responsible solutions to increase the judiciary's ability to function better for UA students, according to the resolution.
This resolution calls for the section in the ASG Constitution that addresses the ASG judicial branch to be completely taken out and replaced with a new section addressing the branch.
