Mallett out for spring

Issue date: 4/11/08 Section: Sports
Arkansas freshman transfer quarterback Ryan Mallett will miss the remainder of spring practice with a fractured right thumb.
Mallett injured his thumb during a scrimmage Friday when he hit his hand on a defender's helmet. He had completed 6-of-12 passes for 45 yards until the injury.
Mallett is still awaiting an answer from the NCAA on a requested waiver for eligibility this fall. Mallett, who transferred in January after a coaching change at Michigan, would have to sit out the 2008 season per NCAA transfer rules.

Since Mallett played a year at Michigan, he is a sophomore instead of a freshman.

Tom, you are wrong. Mallet is in the second semester of his freshmen year. Thus he is a freshman transfer.
