A new UA vice chancellor for university advancement has been named, according to a Friday press release.

Choate, 51, will become vice chancellor July 1, when Gearhart assumes the role of UA chancellor.

"I'm sad to be leaving South Carolina. We have been building a great program here and have made what will undoubtedly be lifelong friends," said Choate, who noted that although he and his wife are sad to leave USC, they also are looking forward to coming to Arkansas.

"Julie and I are very

"We have had the opportunity to visit the state and university several times over the years, and know it to be a wonderful area and institution. The university has made great strides forward in the past several years, and I am thrilled to be part of an effort to move the university to even higher achievements."

Choate has been the USC vice president for university advancement for more than two years, according to the USC Web site.

He also has been responsible for fundraising efforts and advancement units at the university's eight campuses, including the offices of advancement administration, communications, development and government relations and the Carolina Alumni Association.

Choate will oversee the development, alumni, constituent relations, special events and university relations programs at the UA, according to the press release.

Gearhart led the search committee charged with finding his successor.

"As someone who has spent a career in the advancement profession, including the last 10 years at the University of Arkansas, I felt strongly that we needed to get an experienced professional with exhibited success in higher education advancement at the highest levels," Gearhart said, according to the press release.
