Bestselling author Lisa Gardner portrays a killer with an obsession with spiders in "Say Goodbye." The killer preys on those whose disappearances will not attract attention; therefore, when one or two prostitutes vanish, most think that they have just moved on. But when one prostitute comes to FBI Special Agent Kimberly Quincy believing that someone is killing them, Kimberly takes it upon herself to catch the killer.
Kimberley's life is not exactly perfect. Married to another FBI agent, their lives are often chaotic and, with the added responsibility of her pregnancy, relations between the couple are often strained. Kimberly wants to continue working to advance her career, while her husband wants her to play a lesser role.
In addition to this marital turmoil, Kimberly continues her investigation and uncovers a mysterious and depraved killer with a fascination for spiders. Soon it becomes apparent that she might be the next victim if she does not stop him.
Although Gardner clearly has the ability to combine an intricate plot with plenty of suspense, new readers should be cautioned that much of the content is excessively graphic and some might find it disturbing. There are descriptions of murder, torture and rape that, at times, seem unnecessarily graphic and merely leave a bad taste in the mouth.
